AP Saleroom

About Us

AP Saleroom is the auction house built by collectors, for collectors. We deal in one thing — vintage advertising and petroliana — and we do it in an environment designed from the ground up to give sellers and buyers alike a better experience, better information and better results.

Our Story

Our founder, Nick Joslin, has been a collector of advertising and petroliana since 1973, when, aged 11, he brought home an enamel sign that ‘fell off’ a derelict building in the small Devon village where he grew up. That sign was the start of a lifelong passion — and, eventually, of AP Saleroom itself.

Having bought and sold at auction for over 30 years, Nick often felt that things could be done better: a better environment, better information, lower buyer’s premiums and seller’s commissions — all leading to higher prices achieved and greater satisfaction for sellers and buyers alike. AP Saleroom exists to prove that point at every sale.

Specialists, Not Generalists

At a general auction house, your collection is one lot among thousands. Here, it is the whole business. Nick has enlisted the help and support of trusted friends in the hobby so that genuine expert advice is available across the full spectrum of advertising niches — helping sellers appreciate the true value of their consignments, and giving prospective buyers the transparent, high-quality information they need to bid with confidence. Nick is joined on the rostrum and in the saleroom by Edward Joslin, our second specialist.

‘We’ll take great care selling your collection’

We work to the highest levels of integrity to earn the trust of our customers, and we are committed to a new standard of service — from your first contact through to the final moments of the auction, and beyond.

  • Unsold lots get a second chance to find a new home through our ‘and the sale goes on’ section, where every item featured can be bought at its reserve price.
  • Our service extends past the fall of the hammer to the handling, collection and safe transportation of your items.
  • We connect collectors with specialist services — restoration, framing and specialist transportation — for those seeking that bit extra.
  • Beyond the auction itself, we help match buyers’ wish-lists with willing sellers.

Our Home at Thruxton

Our sales are held in the BARC Clubhouse at Thruxton — a stunning setting that has proved perfect for our auctions and is now the permanent home for all our events.
